05 Mar 2005 Brake lines at top of landing gear legs
Here are a couple of photos of the brake lines installed in the top of the Grove gear legs.
Here you can see how cozy it is in there.
Here I’ve drilled a nice big hole in there with a unibit. I would have rather used a bulkhead fitting, but there is not enough room.
Here is the nice, tight angle on the brake line. Be sure to do the flare before you do the bend. (I ended up making this line again, but didn’t take pictures.)
All installed from the bottom. The rubber grommet I used is for -5 tubing, not -4, so I put a couple of layers of heat shrink on there to fatten it up. That will also provide a bit more protection against scuffing. I don’t know if the gear legs will be moving much at this location, but just in case, I have a nice grommet, and some heat shrink to protect the tube.
The tubing coming up from the left gear tower into the parking brake.
Closer image of the parking brake with both brake lines coming in.
The right gear tower with brake line routing visible.
An exciting perspective shot from the left side.
The brake lines are secured with 4 adel clamps (cushion clamps) – two in the gear tower, and two under the baggage compartment cross strengthener. They’re not going anywhere!
