I want to break in the engine on the ground and it’s recommended to use a cooling shroud to keep the temperatures under control. I needed some sheet metal, and didn’t want to dip into my stock of aviation aluminum, and buying this much sheet at the store would have cost “a lot”. I dropped by my favorite flea market, and he had several recycled road signs made out of aluminum – about 2mm thick, which is more than I needed, but good enough. Turns out that was about the right thickness.
One idea that came to me is that I should have just used hinge to connect the pieces.
Recycled road sign.First test fit – lot of trimming to get to this point. Here are all the pieces ready for assembly. Took me about 10 hours to do this. Some rivets, but mainly clecos – I won’t use this much, and want to store it flat.Used the bolt holes that hold on the engine baffles, with spacers. Here you can see that there is a gap, in order to not touch the baffles or the rocker box covers.Gap on the left side is a bit smaller since there is less stuff to avoid on this side.Should have trimmed a bit more. There is a gap between the back and the rubber baffle sealing, but no problem – there should be enough cooling.
