10 Dec 2005 Fairings-ETC RV8 Grove gear fairings
I got a set of gear intersection fairings for my RV8 with Grove airfoil gear. They are really nice. Only one small problem, the right upper fairing does not quite fit. The left fits perfectly.
Here’s a shot of them sitting in a snow bank. I guess they don’t see too much of this in Goodyear, AZ!
Here you can see the side cut is in a different place on the right fairing. This causes the little block that the screws go into to hit the gear mounting bracket, which on the Grove gear is really large.
Here is the right fairing. You can see the width is smaller than the left.
The left gear – notice the length – it’s quite a bit wider.
A view from the top that shows the difference in shape. The left fairing on the top works perfectly.
Here is the right fairing mounted on the aircraft. There is about a 1/4″ gap.
Right fairing from the bottom. It would be great if the fairing were a bit wider – about an inch would be perfect.
Left fairing, and the gap is very small.
Notice that this left fairing is quite a bit wider than the right. This is good!
