My cutouts needed a lot of work.  I decided to use the flyleds.com “skinny” lights to leave room for landing/taxi lights, which I used standard 12v MR-16 lamps with GU5.3 LED lights.  Testing some from Osram and Philips, they seem ok, but won’t exactly light up the world.

The cutouts look horrible, but they will be hidden.  They are also quite solid so should support the lights fine.
