11 Dec 2016 Oil cooler mount on baffle
I was hoping to stick with the plans to the letter from here on out, but have run into an issue. The oil cooler is too high and interferes with the cowl. I have seen that almost everyone has had to make modifications to the plans here. I guess the baffles are a good compromise between the RV-7 and the RV-8 but seem to need more mods on the 8.
I used a trick I saw on Randy’s RV-3 site to just move the oil cooler down and back using angle riveted together.
I went for a combination of 3/4×3/4×0.024 and 0.125. I lowered the oil cooler about 0.75 inches. Just need to rivet it all now.
This has worked perfectly so far. It might be a bit heavier than the “standard” way, but it’s strong and the additional cooling I get by having this gap is enormous. This is cooling really well, perhaps too well. The CHT on #4 and the oil temps are way down in the green. This mod worked very well.
