Replaced right brake pad liners

21 Oct 2021 Replaced right brake pad liners

The rubber o-ring didn’t look at that good, so I replaced it. These are EPDM rubber since I use DOT 5.1

I saw what might be brake fluid on my right tire, so took things apart to investigate. It seems that there was a leak around the caliper, but not totally clear where it was originating. Not sure if there is a problem with the rubber, or if they got too hot, or just too much wear on the pads.

I use EPDM rubber and DOT 5.1 brake fluid, which is very resistant to fire. http://www.rv8.ch/upgrading-brake-o-rings/

These don’t look that great. Where did that brake fluid come from? The brake caliper?
checking the thickness of the new brake pads
Good comparison between the new and the old brake pads.
Riveting on the new brake pad.
Looking good. Please ignore those scratches – they are not the scratches you are looking for.
The brake pad rivet tool makes this an easy process.
The other brake liner being installed. The aluminum chips are from a previous drilling session – nothing to do with the brakes.
It’s important to make sure that the rivet is squeezed perpendicular to the brake.
Looking good installed.
Nice view showing both new pads.
The pads on the left wheel still have a lot of wear left on them.
Another angle showing the brake pads on the left wheel – still good, and no leaking brake fluid.

Replacement of the brake pads/linings was not difficult with the right tool. I bought the brake tool and some brake pads from Aircraft Spruce a few weeks ago, to have “just in case” – I didn’t think I would need them so quickly with only about 250 landings.
