22 Oct 2003 Vertical Stabilizer Prep. – 6 hrs
The vertical stabiizer is very similar to the horizontal stabilizer, only much simpler.
Essentially it is a lot of clecoing, drilling, deburring, dimpling, and scuffing. After all that is done, then the parts can get primed.
You can see above that I have only clecoed the parts together, and I have not yet even removed the blue plastic coating that comes on some of the parts. Leaving on the blue plastic reduces scratches, and helps pull of bits of scrap from the drilling process. This makes deburring a bit faster.
Dimpling is pretty easy, but gets your hands sore if you do it too much – like I’m doing here!
Here are all the parts, ready to be primed. Not much, huh?
