04 Apr 2004 Grove Landing Gear
I ordered the landing gear for my RV8 from Grove Aircraft because they are lighter, they are aerodynamic, eliminating the need for fairings, and they include the brake “line” inside the gear.
They cost a bit more than the gear from Van’s, but you can get a reduction on your kit price if you ask Van’s to leave the gear out. You can also ask them to leave out the two attach brackets that are included with the Grove gear. The following diagram shows what you get with the Grove gear.
Here you can see what Van’s ships on the left, and what Grove ships on the right. You need some of the stuff on the left, as you can see. Grove also ships 5 bolts, washers, and nuts for the attachment, and you will need four of the bolts Van’s ships. I did ask Van’s to not ship the redundant attachments, but they came anyway. I’m not sure how much they cost, but I will ship them back anyway, since it seems a waste to have them collecting rust on the shelf. Yes, they are steel.
