Brake lines for the Grove gear

19 Jul 2005 Brake lines for the Grove gear

This is a continuation of the original article on Wheels and Brakes.
I was not too comfortable with the short aluminium tubes that hooked up the brakes to the Grove gear. You can see photos of the installation in the above link.

Jack Fromm sent me some hints and tips on doing this with very small, stainless steel braided teflon hose. His hints were invaluable, and his instructions and parts list were absolutely spot on. I’m including the list here so that you won’t have any trouble duplicating this simple, but very elegant mod.

Here’s the contact information. They don’t have a website.

And here are the part numbers. The fittings are kind of expensive and these prices may not be current. You can get 2 feet of the hose and cut it in half and that should work out just right.

FBC0300 #3 braided teflon hose – 3.25/ft.
FBM1100 #3 straight fitting – 6.95
FBM1110 #3 45 elbow – 11.95
2 each of an AN823-3D and an AN822-3D elbow, which can be obtained from Aircraft Spruce or any other aviation supplier.

Here are the parts as described above:

Just in case you need it, here are the instructions for attaching the fittings to the hose. Not hard, but good to have the instructions. I don’t have the special tool described, but I found that it was not hard to install the fittings without the tool. I copied these instructions from the XRP Racing catalog.

I feel much better about the brake installation. Many thanks to Jack for the detailed information!
