18 Nov 2004 More panel cutouts
Today I cut out the holes for the Trio avionics EZ Pilot autopilot, and the Blue Mountain EFIS/Lite. I bit ballsy on the EFIS cutout, since I don’t have it, and who knows – I could find a different system. Anyway, I was in the cutting mood.
Here is the panel marked up with the places to cut.
Here is the hole for the trio. They said it is a standard 3.125 inch hole, but I only cut it to 3.0 inches, since that’s enough space for the autopilot.
Here is the front view of the trio in the panel. Notice the rather cool black plastic finishing washers, and the sexy torx 6-32 screws (sorry, it’s getting late).
The box from the back. You can’t see them here, but I have some very small plastic washers between the autopilot box and the back of the panel. I didn’t feel good about having that scratchy metal box right up against the panel. I hope the box does not need to be grounded, or I’ll have to add a seperate ground connection.
Turned out pretty nicely, and I didn’t have to wallow out the screw holes very much.
Oops – looks like I didn’t take a picture of the cutout for the EFIS. It’s just a hole, anyway.
